Science Lab Happenings

In kindergarten the students are studying about how to learn in science. They are grouping by properties and learning the various tools used in science.

In first grade students are studying Air and Weather. Here are some of the activities we have done: made parachutes and launched syringe plungers. These each show how air is moved and can move other objects.

In second grade students are studying Balance and Motion. The objective is to balance things in many ways, counterweights can help balance an object and a stable position is one that is steady: the object being not falling over. We even discussed Alexander Calder and his mobiles. Here we are trying out balance and making mobiles.

In third grade students are studying States of Matter. Here they are testing various insulators.

In fourth grade students are looking at Magnetism and Electricity. The students learned all about magnets and are now learning how to complete a circuit, make a series circuit and make a parallel circuit.

In fifth grade students are exploring the solar system. Here they are finding the relative distance of each planet from the Sun using a toilet paper square as a standard unit of measurement. Also they learned about the star Betelgeuse and the size in comparison to our solar system.

  1. Is it too late to take science over! What a great way to learn. I wish I could have had these science experiences as a child.
